Club Night takes place every Tuesday evening from 18.30 to 20.00 at Winners. See the Club Night page for more details.
This year we are fielding 2 Interclub teams and 1 veterans team, plus a Eurocontrol team in the inter-société competition.
On Tuesday 2 September ECSC 1 (playing in Fédérale 3) had a tough match to start the season, with a makeshift team losing 3-1 to a younger talented ‘Jurassic Parc’ team from Le Parc. Mitch Ward, our captain, saved the honour by beating the opposing captain, who was not quite back to match fitness after a 2 year layoff from squash.
Please note the summer opening times of Winner’s (from 5 July to 30 August 2021) are as follows: • Open Monday-Friday, 09.00-22.00 • Open Saturday/Sunday 09.00-14.00 • Closed on Wednesday 21 July, Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 August.
Next season ECSC will be fielding 2 teams in the LFS interclub competition, and 1 team in the LFS veterans (over-35) competition. For the time being, ECSC team players continue to meet at WInner’s from 19.00 to 20.00 on Thursdays. If you would like to join one of our teams, you are welcome to join us.
While indoor sports were banned, ECSC team players have been meeting up once a week (since April) in the Bois de la Cambre for a cross-fit training sesssion with coach Fabrice. When courts reopened, we wasted no time, with our first session back on the courts on 9 June. We have now resumed our regular training sessions at Winners (Mondays, 13.00-14.00) and are also playing on Thursday evenings (19.00-20.00). If you are interested in playing for ECSC in the next LFS interclub leagues, now is the time to express your interest!
What a long time it has been since we were last allowed to play squash! Indoor sport will be allowed again from 9 June 2021, and our home club, Winner’s, will be opening then. We’re still waiting for details of the opening hours and the remaining restrictions. Hopefully we’ll be able to play full games of squash, use the changing rooms and showers, and have a meal and/or drink in the bar, which will presumably have to close at 22.00. Watch this space for further news!

On Thursday 17 October ECSC1 made the trip down to Gosselies, but lost 3-1, with only Mitch managing a win. Artur was unlucky, leading well in the 5th, but ran out of steam, Enrique also lost a tough 5 setter and Rob lost 3-1, with all the games close fought.
ECSC2 did better, drawing 2-2, with John and Tim having good wins, Pierre losing a ding-dong 5 setter, and Youri unable to recreate his form in training, losing 3-0.
On Thursday 3 October, a makeshift ECSC2 team struggled away against South Parc, with only Mitch being able to adapt to the dodgy superfast ball, though Pierre was unlucky to lose out in the 5th after battling back from 2 down, and Rob & Tim would rather forget their games.
On Thursday 26 September both teams had their second match of the season.
ECSC1 drew 2-2, with Artur narrowly losing 2-3, Mitch clinging tooth & nail to the 3rd to win 3-0, Daniel turning up the turbo to win comfortably 3-1, and Jens taking his time to warm up and losing 0-3.
ECSC2 had a harder time with John winning well 3-1 against a young fit opponent, Simon struggling for consistency going down 1-3, Tim going down 0-3 against young legs despite battling hard, and Youri entertaining the crowds in a 5 setter, unlucky to lose the 5th to finish 2-3.
The first match of the season was a baptism of fire for ECSC1, facing a younger, fitter team with everyone significantly outranked. Despite Fred’s support, predictably we lost 4-0. Mitch & John gave it a good go and managed to take a game each, Enrique fought hard to no avail, and Youri bravely sacrificed himself in the name of the team. On the positive side we won the lasagne eating and beer drinking competition…
